MILPITAS — A 51-year-old Oakland man was arrested this week in connection with burglaries at two Milpitas drugstores in which thousands of dollars worth of cigarette cartons were stolen, police said.

Wednesday about 5:24 a.m.. officers responded to an alarm at the Walgreens at 342 W. Calaveras Blvd. and spotted Chardel Malone walking away with bags of stolen merchandise.

Malone reportedly ran from the officers, but he was apprehended after a short foot chase, according to police. He was found with about $3,000 worth of stolen cigarette cartons.

Police said a small amount of crack cocaine and crystal methamphetamine also was found in Malone’s car, which was parked nearby.

Surveillance video was used to link Malone to a similar burglary at the Walgreens at 1833 N. Milpitas Blvd. on June 20, 2016. About $4,400 worth of cigarette cartons were stolen.

Malone, who was on probation in Alameda County for burglary, was booked at the Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose on charges of burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, being under the influence of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.Find Link Here
